Starting an Adventure in International Learning and Outstanding Research

At the beginning of any journey, the sea may seem uncertain, the winds contrary, and the destination undefined. However, it is precisely in the pursuit of knowledge that the courage to push forward, discover new horizons, and transform challenges into opportunities is born.

This describes the SAILOR Program, an innovative initiative by UniFAJ and UniMAX, which invites health science students to embark on a true academic adventure towards quality science, internationalization, and global impact.

What is SAILOR?

SAILOR is a free, voluntary program conducted online on Saturdays, utilizing a hybrid language approach (Portuguese and English).

More than just a course, it serves as a laboratory for scientific ideas and practices, designed to:

  • Teach the fundamentals of scientific research: from methodology to article writing.
  • Develop critical thinking and ethical data analysis.
  • Explore effective scientific communication – how to present, publish, and make an impact.
  • Prepare students for international research calls and programs.
  • Strengthen national and international academic networking.

Course Structure

The program is organized into 5 thematic modules:

  1. Discovering Health Science Research – challenges and opportunities in science.
  2. Critical Thinking – learning to question, structure hypotheses, and seek evidence.
  3. Ethics and Data Analysis – research ethics and applied statistics.
  4. Scientific Communication – communicating science clearly and strategically.
  5. Preparing for International Research Applications – resumes, letters, and interviews for academic mobility.

Activities include roundtable discussions with international researchers, practical workshops, and the development of real projects, such as academic posters and presentations in English.

Key Advantages

Practical training in scientific research and methodology.
Development of critical thinking and effective scientific communication.
Preparation for international research calls and programs.
Networking with national and international researchers.
Certification for 40 extracurricular hours.

A journey that continues…

The sea of science is vast and full of discoveries.

SAILOR continues to navigate – and you could be the next to embark!

"It was a transformative experience. Through the meetings, I had the opportunity to reconnect with a professor and start working on an article. I learned a lot about research and the opportunities available."

"[...] I think the most important thing is for us, as students, to feel and see in the professors' eyes their passion for both science and education; it warms the heart! I thank you again for the initiative and the opportunity to be part of this project!"

"...excellent for us to start understanding how the world of science/research works. In my case, it was my first contact with this area; I always had a lot of interest but little access to such information. I believe the course, overall, will be very beneficial for all participants. I am already looking forward to the next meeting!"
